Played a cool show at the Grammy Museum in LA last night. Was officially asked to join Michelle Young and the Collective so I guess I’m in my first band officially since college. We got to play our set in front of the John Coltrane exhibit in the museum. It made me sentimental for Coltrane’s music. I played as many of his songs and transcriptions that I knew ofc. This band leader from the jam at the black rabbit rose I may have wrote about seeing when I first moved up here was at the show and he invited me to come sit in on Tuesdays, something I’ve wanted to do for months now. Nice to have this happen naturally. Gonna play a lot today.
Meeting more and more musicians of increasing degrees of professionalism is very inspiring. My grandpa even put me in contact with this guy Larry, who arranged and lead the most recorded horn section of all time, see Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Al Jarreau, etc. We had a good phone conversation and he already gave me the name of a killer instrument technician in Tarzana.
